When I attempt to go into full screen mode, the game crashes saying the screen cannot be displayed

I think you will find the game exits rather than crashing, tho it has the same effect for you

It happens when your computer hardware, either the monitor or graphics card, does not support 1024x768. You can override this in the config file "Documents/tbcb2013/config/settings.cfg" and set it to a screen mode your hardware likes. However there are some issues with the skin not scaling so well at the moment. It is a work in progress...
